CanineCase didn't start with a business idea. It started with a question: why is there no software that actually fits how behavior professionals work?

I'm not a dog trainer. I'm a finance professional — ten years working in audit and financial planning. But I do have a dog.
Her name is Sonya. She's a Maltipoo, and she's the reason this product exists.
Sonya is afraid of fireworks and loud noises. When she was going through behavior training for her noise reactivity, I started paying attention to how her trainer worked. The notes taken by hand. The follow-up emails written from scratch after every session. The spreadsheet tracking which sessions were left in the package. The separate booking tool. The separate invoice tool. The voice memos recorded on a phone and never transcribed.
It was a patchwork of disconnected tools held together by habit and goodwill. And it was clearly taking time away from the actual work — the dogs.
What we learned
What we learned from trainers
Before building anything, we spent months researching. We reached out manually to hundreds of professional dog trainers and behavior consultants across the US, Canada, UK, and Australia. We interviewed them. We asked what tools they used, what frustrated them, what they wished existed.
The same things came up again and again:
- “I spend more time on admin than I'd like to admit.”
- “I have client notes everywhere — voice memos, Google Docs, my own memory.”
- “I wish I could send better updates to owners without spending 20 minutes writing them.”
- “I've tried every tool out there. None of them are built for what I actually do.”
No one was building specifically for solo private behavior professionals. The tools that existed were either built for kennels and grooming facilities, or generic business software that required hours of customization to be useful at all.
So we built CanineCase.

Every decision in CanineCase traces back to something a trainer told us. The dog is the primary record — not the owner, not the appointment — because that's how behavior professionals actually think. The AI note structure reflects the four things trainers told us they write after every session. The owner observation link exists because trainers kept telling us they wished they had more data from between sessions.
We didn't adapt generic software for dog trainers. We built from scratch, for this specific type of professional, from day one.

Sonya is a white Maltipoo and the unofficial mascot of CanineCase. She appears throughout the app as a small illustrated character — our way of keeping the product warm, personal, and a little bit joyful in the middle of what is otherwise a business tool.
She also has excellent recall. Most of the time.
